On Tuesday, a truly charming scene got underway in Dallas. Supporters of the English national team descended on the Londoner Pub in Dallas’ Glencoe neighborhood ahead of England’s World Cup match against Croatia at AT&T Stadium on Wednesday. Fans had, according to the bar owners, planned to arrive at 7 p.m. Tuesday as part of a last-minute meet-up. Bar owner Charlotte Tate told the Dallas Morning News that they expected a turnout of about 200 fans.
But the Londoner staff were absolutely overwhelmed. Supporters of the Three Lions ran up a $30,000 tab and drank 5,000 pints of Miller Lite, Corona, Modelo, Michelob Ultra, Shiner and more. Chants of “It’s Comin’ Home” and “Don’t take me home” could be heard, according to the Telegraph. By 10 p.m., Tate told the Morning News, the pub completely ran out of beer and was forced to close hours early. Fans got wild, and police were called in response to the crowd, though apparently nobody was arrested.
For some reason, a photographer with the British agency PA Images was on hand in Dallas and, in his infinite wisdom, uploaded these photos of the whole affair to Getty Images for you and me to enjoy. As things got wilder, the meet-up’s organizer, John Galivan, told UK paper The Telegraph that he had no idea how big the event would get.
“We’ve been here since 4 p.m., and it’s been grand. I feel sorry for the bar staff,” Galivan told The Telegraph.
Around 10:40 p.m., Dallas Police were called to the Londoner in response to the massive crowd. Fans were asked to leave, but nobody was arrested.
A few Englanders began playing footy outside, too.
But the Londoner wasn’t totally screwed. At the end of the night, many England fans stayed behind to help the staff clean up, according to the Telegraph.
Despite running out of beer, these blokes truly had a night they’d never forget. And one can only imagine how crazy they got after the English side beat Croatia 4-2 the next day. It’s comin’ home!!!!
