If you have plans this Father’s Day weekend, you may want to give yourself a little extra time before heading out the door.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is warning that another round of construction work scheduled for this weekend at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange could cause major delays for motorists in the area.
Crews will continue work on bridge construction as part of the ongoing Loop 1604 North Expansion project. It’s part of a $1.4 billion makeover underway for the busy San Antonio highway system, set to bring major improvements — and temporary closures — in the coming years.
The upcoming closures include the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 frontage roads at the interchange, the eastbound I-10 mainlanes at the interchange, and two left lanes of westbound I-10 mainlanes at the interchange
Work is scheduled to take place from 10 p.m. Friday, June 19, through midnight Sunday, June 21, weather permitting, according to a social media post shared by the department’s San Antonio office.
TxDOT is telling motorists that if they plan to travel in the area, they should allow additional time to commute safely and follow all posted detour signs.
“Thank you for your patience as crews continue making progress on improvements designed to keep Central Texas moving,” the agency said in its Facebook post.
