ABILENE, Texas — High school students from across the Big Country spent Friday exploring what it takes to become a nurse during Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing’s Next Stop Nursing Camp in Abilene.
Held at the TTUHSC School of Nursing campus on Pine Street, the free camp gave students an opportunity to experience hands-on activities designed to introduce them to nursing careers and the many skills nurses use every day.

Throughout the day, participants took part in a variety of interactive learning experiences, including CPR and Stop the Bleed training, telehealth exercises, neonatal assessments, disaster response activities and escape room challenges.
The activities were designed to help students gain a better understanding of the nursing profession while engaging in practical, real-world scenarios.
In addition to the hands-on training, students had the opportunity to connect with TTUHSC School of Nursing mentors during a panel discussion, where they could ask questions and learn more about educational pathways and career opportunities in nursing.

The camp brought together students from across the region who are interested in exploring careers in health care and nursing.
TTUHSC School of Nursing Regional Dean Heather Guest, Ph.D., R.N., and other participants were available for interviews during the event.
