Dallas Fire-Rescue officials were working a three-alarm fire at a home in a far north Dallas gated community Friday morning.
When firefighters arrived at the large three-story residence, they reported smoke coming from the attic windows. Firefighters deployed hand lines and moved in for an offensive attack, but considering the size of the house and knowing the fire was primarily in the attic at this point, command immediately requested a two-alarm response.
Despite suppression efforts, conditions continued to worsen as reports of fire coming through the roof began to surface. As a result, a three-alarm response was requested, all companies were pulled out of the house, and operations became defensive.
A fourth alarm was later added for manpower, as nearly 100 firefighters were dispatched to the scene to resolve the situation.
It’s unclear whether anyone was in the house when the fire began, but an unknown number of service workers were at the scene of the fire when DFR arrived. None of them were injured, and no injuries were reported to any DFR personnel.
Though the fire is under control, it has not been officially declared extinguished. Overhaul companies have been dispatched to the scene and will continue the process of digging through the massive amount of debris to locate and extinguish smoldering hot spots. About 60 to 70 firefighters remain on scene as of 2 p.m., according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
