EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Deputies arrested a 49-year-old El Paso man who had avoided registering as a sex offender for 25 years.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Victor Manuel Nevarez was arrested on Tuesday after he had been wanted on a “failure to comply with sex offender registration duties” warrant since April 2001.
The Sheriff’s Office said the arrest was made possible thanks to the help of the Texas Department of Public Safety, as they first tipped off deputies that Nevarez had reportedly failed to register as he was getting a Texas ID.
As a result of the tip, deputies looked into it and discovered that Nevarez had an active warrant from over 20 years ago.
With the help of DPS troopers, Deputies found and arrested Nevarez.

Records show Nevarez now sits behind bars at the El Paso County Jail Annex under a $7,500 bond.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds all registered sex offenders that compliance with registration requirements is mandatory under Texas law and urge anyone with information regarding potential sex offender registration violations to call.
