LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Heat returned to the South Plains with a high of 96 degrees in Lubbock on Saturday. So, it seems only appropriate that the first day of summer, Sunday, will feature afternoon temperatures at or above 100 for the region.

Looks like indoor dining may be a good idea for Dad, or a patio with some air flow. Noontime temperatures will be around 90 degrees and there will be a southerly wind at 15-20 mph, with some strong gusts late afternoon.

Temperatures for the remainder of the week will remain in the 90s and there will be some thunderstorm chances coming our way.
Overnight thunderstorms are in the forecast by mid-week which should lead to some cloud cover for the day and afternoon highs in the low to mid 90s.
