EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County is considering removing the duck pond from Ascarate Park, as the park could be getting major upgrades.
On Thursday, Exigo, the architectural team behind the project’s design, showed County Commissioners the possible changes and upgrades to Ascarate Park.

As part of the redesign, the team presented upgrades to the lake and the removal of the duck pond, as it has many problems, including leakage and high toxicity due to golden algae.
In community meetings, the team said they collected feedback with some people in favor of replacing the duck pond with something like a circuit track, while others said, mainly fishers, said they want to keep the pond as it is used as a fishing backup plan, while others said it has nostalgic value.

County Commissioners said they want to survey the community and continue to discuss the subject before deciding in August.
