One of my favorite water cooler topics is ‘boy, how about those gas prices?’ This is right up there with “how ’bout that weather,” and “did you catch the game last night?”
The price of gas in Lubbock has been known to fluctuate, especially during post-pandemic years, but how do we look now compared to last year? Well, according to AAA, there’s actually some good news.

To be specific, the current average gas price for regular unleaded in Lubbock is $2.46, down from $2.50 a year ago. I mean, it’s not a big change… but it’s progress!
Unfortunately for all you truck drivers out there, diesel prices did increase slightly from a year ago, moving from $2.93 per gallon to $3.19.
Fun fact: the highest recorded average price for regular unleaded gas in Lubbock was from June of 2022 where drivers paid $4.52 per gallon—ouch. That same month saw average diesel prices around $5.24.
Texas Average Gas Prices
To help put things into perspective, Texas as a whole is paying roughly $2.55 per gallon, just slightly more than Lubbock. Again, this number is lower than a year ago which saw the average Texan paying $2.64 at the pump.
