Power restoration efforts continue across the San Antonio area Saturday afternoon after overnight storms knocked out electricity to thousands of CPS Energy customers.
According to the utility’s outage map, 360 active outages were affecting 8,415 customers across its service area as of 4:08 p.m. on June 20, down from more than 17,000 customers earlier in the day.
The majority of the remaining outages were in San Antonio, though outages were still reported in nearby communities including Bulverde and Castroville.

Strong storms swept across the San Antonio area overnight, leaving thousands of residents without electricity as crews work to restore service Saturday morning.
According to CPS Energy’s outage map, 370 active outages were affecting 17,126 customers across its service area as of 7:53 a.m. Saturday, June 20. More than 12,300 of the affected customers were in San Antonio, while additional outages were reported in nearby communities including Bulverde and Castroville.
In a social media update posted shortly after 7 a.m., CPS Energy said crews were actively responding to widespread outages caused by overnight storms.
The utility company said restoration efforts typically begin with public safety hazards and outages affecting the largest number of customers before crews move on to smaller outages. CPS Energy also warned that flooded roads and hazardous conditions could affect access to some locations and lead to longer restoration times in certain areas.
While the heaviest rain has moved out of the area, more showers and thunderstorms remain possible Saturday. The National Weather Service forecasts a 50% chance of rain through the day before conditions gradually improve later in the evening.
Additional rain and thunderstorms are possible Sunday as cloudy skies linger over San Antonio. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-90s, with heat index values reaching as high as 105 degrees, according to forecast discussion.
