Smokey Mo’s BBQ held a grand opening celebration for its first Schertz restaurant on Saturday, June 13, and marked the day with $5 Sloppy Mo sandwiches, $2 beers, $1 fountain drinks, $1 teas, giveaways throughout the afternoon, and a fundraiser benefitting Texas CASA, according to a news release. Texas CASA is a nonprofit that supports and advocates for children in foster care throughout Texas, and Smokey Mo’s shared with MySA that the company raised $1,108.38 for children in need during the opening-day festivities.
“A grand opening is about more than celebrating a new restaurant; it’s about becoming part of the community,” Craig Haley, CEO of Smokey Mo’s BBQ, said in an email to MySA. “We’re excited to officially welcome guests to the Schertz location, celebrate the team behind it and support Texas CASA by bringing people together around great barbecue and a great cause.”
Smokey Mo’s was founded in Cedar Park in 2000 and has since grown to more than 20 restaurants across Texas. The company has since opened six smokehouses within the San Antonio city limits, in addition to restaurants in New Braunfels, Bulverde and Boerne.
“The response from the community since opening in May has been incredible,” Kim Harris, owner of Smokey Mo’s Schertz, said to MySA in an email. “This grand opening is an opportunity for us to celebrate with the people who have already welcomed us so warmly and thank them for their support. We’re proud to be part of the Schertz community and the Smokey Mo’s family and look forward to serving our guests for years to come.”
