EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Reaching 100 is a milestone few people attain, and Carolina Salazar celebrated the occasion Friday surrounded by family and friends at Helping Hand Adult Daycare.
Family members, staff and other participants gathered to mark Salazar’s 100th birthday with music, food and festivities.
During the celebration, attendees sang Happy Birthday to Salazar, who rightfully wore a crown and a birthday sash.
Organizers at the center said Salazar’s story and legacy deserve to be shared with the community.
Her daughter, Cristina Benavides, said Salazar faced hardship early in life.
“Her mother died when she was 14, and she was moved around to different aunts and uncles and compadres, and she’s a very strong woman,” Benavides said.
Benavides said that despite turning 100, Salazar remains active and enjoys spending time at the center, adding that she continues to take care of herself and is able to do household activities on her own.
“She’s very social, so she loves coming to the daycare. For being 100, she does wonderfully,” Benavides said.
