AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle has been helping first responders and their families during this challenging year.
Most recently, the organization provided assistance to the family of Texas DPS Trooper Sergio Romero, who was killed in the line of duty this month.
Executive Director Suzanne Talley says the 100 Club has also helped 13 injured first responders and provided life-saving equipment for agencies.
“We’re so thankful and privileged to be able to help our first responders. We wish that we didn’t have to in these tough situations. Unfortunately, we recently paid one line of duty death of a young law enforcement officer,” said Talley.
The organization has stepped in to support volunteer fire departments recover from this year’s wildfires.
The 100 Club, Amarillo Area Foundation, and Amarillo National Bank has provided $10,000 grants to 15 volunteer fire departments and expects to assist up to 35 departments.
“These volunteer firefighters, they are trying to maintain full-time jobs that pay the bills. They’re trying to balance their family life. They’re trying to volunteer to serve and protect in the most crucial fire season. And then they’re also trying to raise money to be able to do what they do safely and effectively,” said Talley.
Talley says community donations make the organization’s work possible.
