LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Temperatures were lower today thanks to a cold front that moved across the South Plains today. However, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for communities from southeast New Mexico to Abilene.
Viewers in the region from Hobbs, New Mexico east to Snyder are included in the advisory since afternoon temperatures have ranged from the mid-90s to near 100 degrees. The Advisory is in effect until 9 pm tonight.

The South Plains region north of the Advisory have had slightly lower afternoon temps that have remained in the low to mid-90s.

Today’s lower temps will disappear tomorrow as the remainder of the week with be Hot. I expect daytime highs near 100 degrees starting tomorrow and continuing into the weekend.
We will likely experience temperatures over the century mark by Thursday and continue into the weekend.

There will be some potential for showers and thunderstorms a few nights and afternoon as the week progresses. In fact, scattered storms are possible, primarily in the southern and eastern South Plains later this evening. A few of those storms could produce strong winds more than 60 mph and possibly hail near one inch in diameter.
The coverage, if any storms develop, will be limited throughout the week.
