An El Paso native is bringing the 915 to the masses … well, the masses in Austin anyway and they are loving him for it.
We all know the food in El Paso is great, (especially when it comes to Mexican food. We’re the Mexican food capital of the world, ‘ya know?) We got game with other cuisines to though.
In fact, one El Paso native is wowing Austin these days with his El Paso spin on burgers.
Morris Pittle, owner of Jewboy Burgers in Austin, was born in Cleveland but his family soon moved to El Chuco where, according to Morris, they found a very strong and welcoming Jewish community.

He very quickly became a fan of local El Paso icons like Roscoe’s, Leo’s Mexican Restaurant, Rafa’s Burritos, and others. Especially Roscoe’s. He took his love of those favorites and used a mashup of his favorite elements of them to create his own style. A style that is going over big in Austin these days.
A perfect mix of Border and Jewish culture. So open your mind, but more importantly, open your mouth, because if you know Jewish people, or you know Latinos, you know you’re about to feast. – jewboyburgers.com
How big? Jewboy recently scored a “best in Austin” award.
“Jewboy”, by the way, is not any kind of insult. It’s what he was called as a young boy in the early 70’s. A nickname given to Morris by his Hispanic neighbors, (they called him “El Jewboy”), who used it in a friendly and respectful manner.
It obviously didn’t bother Morris much as it’s what he named his business. Before Jewboy Burgers, he owned an ad agency in El Paso. He also worked for ad agencies across the USA and studied Creative Marketing” in Austin.
“When you’re in marketing, you learn to look into culture much deeper than most people, because that’s the best way to contact and communicate with somebody is to really make a connection with their culture.” – ktsm
Some thing to think about if you’re starting a business of your own.
