It’s the last week in business for a cocktail bar in one of Houston’s hottest neighborhoods. After three years, Roswell’s Saloon at 1417 Westheimer Rd. in Montrose will close for good this weekend.
In a statement, Roswell’s owner Shawn Bermudez said the bar’s lease was ending, and he wanted to prioritize his other restaurants and businesses. Sunday will be everyone’s last chance for a “toast under the stars.”
“Roswell’s has been a labor of love, and I’m grateful for every Houstonian who came through our doors and let us take them to another galaxy,” Bermudez said. “But with everything we have going on right now between the restaurants and the retail side, it’s time to focus that energy where it’s needed most.”
Bermudez opened Roswell’s in 2023. It occupies the space formerly inhabited by Stone’s Throw, another cocktail bar Bermudez owned, that closed in 2020. He swapped out the chandelier and velvet furniture for lava lamps, projection-mapped galaxies, glowing planet glassware under a black-lit glow and transformed the double-height space into “cosmic cocktail tavern” for Space City.
Beyond Roswell’s Saloon, Bermudez is also behind several retail and restaurant concepts around Houston and Austin, including The Taco Stand, Pistolero’s, Pavement, Leopard Lounge, Money Money and BINS. Perhaps the most popular of all of them is the Burger Joint, which is slated to open its fifth Houston-area location in Rice Village come the fall. A new concept, The Pizza Place, will launch in the Heights neighborhood sometime early next year.
