After 10 sweet years near San Antonio’s iconic St. Mary’s Strip, a beloved donut shop is closing its doors as it looks ahead to “an exciting new adventure in a different city.”
The Art of Donut said a “sweet goodbye” to San Antonio donut lovers in a Tuesday, June 23, Instagram post. In the caption, the sweet-toothed staple wrote that they’d be closing “after 10 incredible years of serving you delicious Donuts and Coffee and building cherished memories.”
“We can’t express enough gratitude for your unwavering love and support throughout the years,” the post read. “Each smile, every donut shared, and all the moments we’ve had together will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Stay tuned for updates on our next chapter—we can’t wait to share our journey with you and hope to see you again soon in our new location! Thank you for being a part of our story.”
Co-founders Andrea Aguirre and Miguel Aja kickstarted The Art of Donut in 2016 as San Antonio’s first crafted donut food truck, and it quickly became popular enough for the two to open a brick-and-mortar location less than a year later. The shop is known for their quirky creations, including the sweet pig (maple icing with caramelized bacon) and donuts covered in cereals like Lucky Charms, Captain Crunch, Reese’s Cocoa Puffs, Fruity Pebbles and more. The Zagat Guide and USA Today even featured The Art of Donut for its unique perspective on the classic bakery treat.
If you’re a regular or haven’t gotten the chance to swing by to satisfy your sweet tooth, you have only a few days left to visit, as the post said The Art of Donut will close on Friday, June 26.
