The company is currently recruiting for a range of positions at its upcoming store, including cashiers, deli and food service associates, grocery associates, gift shop workers and janitorial and maintenance staff. According to hiring materials, hourly wages range from $20 to $25 per hour, with employees also eligible for benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) with up to a 6% employer match and three weeks of paid time off.

The hiring effort comes as construction enters its final stages at the massive travel center under development at I-35 and Yarrington Road. During a February 2024 presentation to the San Marcos City Council, Buc-ee’s representatives projected the store would create between 200 and 225 full-time jobs once operational.

Those jobs come with wages that have helped Buc-ee’s stand out in the convenience store industry. A full-time employee could earn between roughly $41,000 and $52,000 annually before overtime. Employees are also eligible for weekly pay, health benefits, retirement contributions and paid time off.

Buc-ee’s has long promoted itself as a destination for workers seeking higher wages. In previous job postings, some management positions at the chain have offered six-figure salaries, while entry-level pay has consistently exceeded the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.

Beyond the direct employment impact, city officials have previously highlighted the broader economic benefits expected from the project. The travel center is anticipated to generate additional sales tax revenue, attract travelers from across Central Texas and create demand for nearby businesses along one of the region’s busiest commercial corridors.

The 74,707-square-foot facility broke ground in January 2025 and carries an estimated construction cost of $47 million, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Once open, the location will feature more than 100 fueling positions, electric vehicle charging stations and Buc-ee’s signature oversized convenience store experience.

The project marks another significant investment in the rapidly growing San Marcos area, which continues to attract major retail and commercial developments between Austin and San Antonio. With an anticipated August 12 opening date, the company is now focused on building the workforce to operate what is expected to become one of the region’s busiest travel destinations.
