NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Anna Kay Cates, 84, passed away Monday, June 22, 2026. Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2026, in Mount Olivet Chapel. The interment will immediately follow the service at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Anna was born on July 15, 1941, to John and Carrie Ennes. She grew up in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, a cotton producing town. Anna was the youngest of six children and was spoiled by all. Anna was a true country girl, as a child she helped pick cotton and worked in her mother’s garden. She was also a constant companion to her father, they traveled through the mountains and spent days fishing along rivers and creek banks. Anna loved listening to her father’s stories and from a very young age she enjoyed hearing the older men in their small congregation tell stories of their encounters with Belle Starr, Pretty Boy Floyd, and Jesse James. She did not idolize them, but they were certainly some good stories. Through her experiences Anna developed a lifelong love of reading the bible. She was a lover of nature, animals, and loved traveling in the RV with her husband, son, and grandson. Anna married James Otis Cates in 1959 and together they had two sons, Jimmy and Ricky. She had a daughter-in-law, Christie, who brought her two grandsons, Nick and Shawn; two great-grandsons, Ryland and Lochlan; and a granddaughter-in-law, April. Anna was a loving homemaker who loved every member of her family. She leaves behind a family that is strong and loving because of the role she played in their lives. Survivors include her sons, Ricky Cates, Jimmy Cates, and wife Christie; grandsons, James Nicholas Cates, Shawn Cates; great-grandsons, Ryland, Lochlan; and granddaughter-in-law, April.
