This year, the United States is celebrating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Here are six special events happening across Dallas-Fort Worth in honor of this historic event.

AMERICA’S 250TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION DOWNTOWN DALLAS
The city of Dallas will be hosting a special 250th birthday celebration at Main Street Garden Park. It will be a family-friendly celebration and will feature a classic car show, activities for the kids, a snowball fight, a pie-eating contest and lots of photo ops.

MARRIOTT DALLAS UPTOWN AMERICA 250
A free community celebration taking place at Y’all Plaza, located outside the Marriott Hotel. During the celebration, there will be a DJ, a color guard presentation, and a performance by a local high school band. After the celebration, patrons can walk over to Reverchon Park or Klyde Warren Park to watch the fireworks display.

CELEBRATING AMERICA AT 250 AT THE GEORGE W. BUSH PRESIDENTIAL CENTER
The George W. Bush Presidential Museum will have free admission during Independence Day weekend. Museum-goers can explore the permanent exhibit and the “Game Changer: United by Sports” exhibition.

DALLAS PUBLIC LIBRARY AMERICA 250 PROGRAMS
Libraries around Dallas will be hosting multiple events in honor of America’s 250th birthday. One of these events is Family Fun Day: A Day in the (Colonial) Life, where families will get to participate in old-fashioned games and vintage crafts. Another event is the Lost Declaration: An Escape Adventure. Participants will get to interpret clues and solve puzzles to find the Declaration of Independence.

NORTH TARRANT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 250th CELEBRATION
The North Tarrant community will be hosting a special celebration in honor of America’s 250th birthday. The free community tradition will have a 2,500-drone show, fireworks, live music by Texas Jazz All Stars, a corndog-eating contest, food trucks, bounce houses and family activities.

The city of Frisco will be hosting many events and exhibitions in honor of the nation’s sesquicentennial. These include the Liberty Lantern Trail that begins at Jimmy and Clara Jones Park and concludes at the Frisco Heritage Center. The trail is illuminated by 250 lanterns and highlights key moments from the American Revolution. The Sharing the Spirit of America event, which will include an ice cream social, a reading of the Declaration of Independence and a movie screening of National Treasure.
