A major airline is canceling two nonstop flights to southern cities at a Central Texas airport, but will add a direct link between two major tech hubs this fall. Delta Air Lines will discontinue two routes from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in early October.

Delta’s final flights from AUS to Memphis and New Orleans are expected to stop operating on October 5, “to better align with demand,” a Delta spokesperson told MySA. In a statement, the company apologized for any inconvenience and said it has reached out directly to affected customers.

Although Delta’s regularly scheduled service on these routes will end, the airline confirmed it still plans to operate select flights during high-demand Texas football weekends this fall, including when the Longhorns play Louisiana State University in November and when Ole Miss comes to Austin this October. 

Starting October 6, Delta is launching a new nonstop service from Austin to San Jose, California (SJC), known as the “Capital of Silicon Valley.” The airline will also add a third daily frequency between AUS and Orlando (MCO), giving Central Texas travelers more flexibility for quick getaways and theme park trips, according to Delta.

The company said it routinely evaluates its network and adjusts service to align capacity with customer demand. Delta maintained its commitment to growing its presence in the Austin area, with overall capacity up this year compared to summer 2025. By December, Delta aims to serve 30 destinations from Austin, including its newly announced nonstop service to San Jose. 

Two years ago, Delta added its largest flight schedule ever to Austin, offering 11 peak-day flights from AUS starting in spring 2024. At the time, the company said it wanted to position Austin as a key access point for connecting to its larger global network. 

This year, the company launched six new routes from Austin, including year-round service to Columbus, Ohio and Kansas City, Missouri; seasonal flights to Asheville, North Carolina, Bozeman, and Kalispell, Montana; and a new route from AUS to Phoenix, Arizona, starting July 7. 

For those seeking nonstop service to both NOLA and Memphis, Southwest Airlines currently operates an AUS-to-New Orleans route and is set to launch flights to Memphis on October 1.
