ARLINGTON, Texas — The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is slated to launch a new paid teaching residency program in the fall of 2027, according to a press release.

According to the release, aspiring educators will have the option to spend a full academic year in a classroom during their final year of undergraduate studies. As the demand for teachers continues to grow across the state, this year-long paid classroom experience is said to help better prepare aspiring teachers and meet the demands of the industry.
“The UTA College of Education is one of the leading providers of highly qualified, certified teachers for Tarrant County schools. With a highly ranked college and award-winning faculty and staff, we are well positioned to deliver a high-quality teacher residency program for our partner school districts and their students,” said Interim Dean Anna Cavallo.
Last year, state lawmakers approved $8.5 billion in funds for teacher preparation and certification programs, among other education investments, according to the release. Additionally, UTA was accepted into the US PREP Coalition, which is a network of over 40 universities working to strengthen educator preparation programs.
Staff at UTA will begin to design the teaching residency model this summer, with the program being offered beginning in the fall of 2027.
