TORONTO — This time, the Rangers hope, he’ll stick around for more than a week.

The Rangers activated shortstop Corey Seager from the concussion injured list and placed infielder Cody Freeman on the 10-day injured list prior to Thursday’s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Center. Seager had missed a dozen consecutive games after a home plate collision two weeks ago left him with what was described as a mild concussion.

The 32 year old collided with Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen in a June 11 game and landed on the injured list four days later. He began to ramp up more intensely last weekend, and Tuesday, he participated in a live batting practice for the first time since his concussion.

Seager has played only five games since May 13 because of two separate injuries. He missed three weeks with lower back inflammation and was available for less than a week before his head injury. He’s only played 47 games this season and, for the fourth consecutive year, will be unable to clear the 130-game threshold.

He’s slashed a career-worst .186/.284/.373 to begin this season.

Freeman, who has not played since June 20, missed the first two months of the season because of a lumbar stress reaction that he suffered in spring training. The 25 year old slashed .235/.278/.235 in seven games with the Rangers this season and played both the infield and outfield for a shorthanded team.

Freeman’s injury was listed as a herniated disc, and his placement on the IL will be retroactive to June 22.
