EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/ CBS4) — One thing driving viewers crazy this week is the construction work along Vista del Sol in East El Paso.
One viewer commented on one of my posts, saying:
“Construction on Vista Del Sol. There is no progress on this street from George Dieter to Zaragoza. Nobody is working on it.”
The section of the Vista del Sol project between George Dieter Drive and Phil Gibbs Drive is different from the other work happening along the corridor.
This part of the project requires a full roadway reconstruction, which is much more extensive than the resurfacing work taking place elsewhere.
Right now, crews are digging about four feet below the surface. City officials say that allows inspectors to examine underground utilities before the new roadway is built.
“That allows us to work with the pipes that are in the area so that inspectors can look at them and make sure the pipes don’t need replacing from El Paso Water Utilities or Texas Gas, and also our sewer lines and drainage lines,” said Russell Williams, City of El Paso Capital Improvement Project Manager.
The overall project includes several improvements along Vista del Sol, including street resurfacing from Sumac Drive to Lomaland Drive and from Randy Wolff Drive to Bert Green Drive. City officials say that work is nearly complete.
The final major component is the reconstruction section between George Dieter and Phil Gibbs. Officials expect that portion of the project to be finished early next year.
The project also includes new ADA-compliant sidewalks, curbs and gutters, updated street signs and pavement markings, and repairs to older stretches of roadway between key intersections.
