The owner of the SUV told officers he thought the man had stolen the car, officials say.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A repo man was shot by the owner of a repossessed SUV in Arlington earlier this week, police say.

Police responded to a parking lot in the 2100 block of S. Collins Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a report of a shooting and found a 20-year-old man had been shot in the leg, police say. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials say. He wasn’t identified.

Officers determined the man is a repo man who had repossessed an SUV just before the shooting, according to a press release. The man told police he’d pulled into a parking lot to file a report when the owner of the SUV pulled up in another vehicle and confronted him, officials say. During the exchange, police say the owner of the SUV pulled out a gun and shot the repo man.

The owner of the SUV, though, told officers he saw the man reaching for something in his waistband and thought the man had stolen his car, which is why the owner of the SUV said he pulled out the gun and fired, police say.

Officers recovered firearms from both men, police say.

No charges have been filed and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

This is a developing story. No additional information was immediately available.Â
