Near record warmth

  • November 4, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Near record warmth highlights our forecast today. There are more very warm days in my forecast through the work week. There also are three cold fronts in my forecast over the next seven days.

Temperatures today will peak 15 to 20 degrees above average for early November. Lubbock’s average high for today, November 4, is 68°. The record high is 88°, set on this date in 2017 and tied on the date in 2020.

High but thin clouds will drift overhead, but will not bring rain.

Breezy winds will return to the area from midday through the afternoon. The southwesterly wind will increase to around 10 to 20 mph, with some gusts near 30 mph.

The dry, breezy, and warm conditions will elevate the grassland fire risk today and again Thursday. These are NO BURN days. In these conditions, grass fires may ignite easily, spread rapidly, and be difficult to bring under control.

Through at least Saturday be extra diligent following fire safety tips. Please be careful during outdoor activities which may involve flames, sparks, or extreme heat.

As I noted yesterday, the pattern bringing the well-above average temperatures will also keep us dry.

The first of three cold fronts arrives tomorrow. This front has little support, so only a slight dip in temperatures will follow it.

The second cold front arrives around Thursday night. It is a little stronger than the first front, but will drop highs only about ten degrees between Thursday and Friday.

The third of the three fronts is likely to move in late Saturday. This is the strongest of the cold fronts. It will drop temperatures to a little below average Sunday.
