Houston police were asking for the public’s help to locate a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed an elderly man in North Houston late Wednesday.
The man was walking with his wife who had just left work at El Rancho Supermarket in the 11900 block of Airline Drive shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sgt. D. Griffiths told OnScene TV.
A vehicle was traveling northbound on Airline Drive when it struck the man and failed to stop and render aid. The man, who was in his 70s or 80s, died on scene, she said.
She said they are most likely looking for an SUV or smaller truck, silver or white, and it would be missing a driver’s side mirror.
The wife was ahead of the man walking when he was struck. Griffiths said there was not a crosswalk where they were walking while heading to their apartment after her work.
Should the driver be found, he or she could be charged with failure to stop and render aid and possibly other charges as HPD continues to investigate the crime.
