SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo. (KKTV) – With the assistance of a K9 unit, El Paso County deputies arrested a suspect who had narcotics in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
El Paso County deputies said on June 16, at about 9:30 a.m., they were patrolling the area of Almont Avenue in the Security-Widefield area.
Deputies said while in the area, they found a man known to them, 53-year-old Craig Nothaus, who entered a vehicle and began driving away.
A recent contact with Nothaus showed deputies he was driving without a valid driver’s license, deputies said. With this information, deputies initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, deputies said they learned Nothaus was out on bond stemming from a May 6 incident, for which he was arrested for possession of 24 grams of methamphetamine.
Deputies said K9 Dex was requested to the scene to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle. During the open-air sniff, the K9 alerted his handler that there were narcotics in the presence.
Deputies searched the vehicle and located about 6.4 grams of methamphetamine, deputies said.
Nothaus was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and driving under restraint, deputies said. He was released on a $1,000 bond.
