LUBBOCK, TX (NEWS RELEASE) – Nonprofit Buckner International is kicking off the annual Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® Community Shoe Drive in collaboration with 90.1 FM Family Life Radio. They are collecting new shoes and socks for vulnerable children June 28 -July 31. The drive benefits children served by Buckner locally.
To kick-off the drive, the Buckner Family Hope Center will host a “Family Fun Day” on Friday, June 26th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. to kick off the shoe drive. This is open to the community and activities will include a foam party, petting zoo, yard games, soft play area for the kids, vendors, food, and more.
There are currently several community collaborators serving as shoe drop-off locations throughout the month including the Buckner Family Hope Center in Lubbock, all Prosperity Bank locations, Mighty Wash, Chickies Tasty Treats, and more.
“I am excited by the organizations that have already signed up to help collect shoes,” said Dr. Christie Moreno, executive director at Buckner Lubbock, “There is still time to join our community shoe drive. Organizations who would like to help collect shoes to impact the lives of children can visit our website to learn more.”
The shoes collected during the drive will provide hope for families in Lubbock during the new school year. Buckner Lubbock serves vulnerable children and families in the community through a variety of programs. These programs include foster care and adoption, family transition programs, and community-based family preservation programs. Buckner also provides humanitarian aid and crisis relief to poverty-stricken children and families.
“A brand-new pair of shoes allows a child to start school more confident, more comfortable, and with one less worry going into a new school year,” said Eden Van Hoogen, operations and engagement manager at Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls. “These donations can change the lives of thousands of vulnerable children at home and across the world. They can offer children health, education, hope, and opportunity.”
All donated shoes and socks for children and teens must be new due to customs regulations. The greatest needs are boys’ sizes 1-5 and girls’ sizes 4-5. Cash donations are also accepted. Buckner will host a shoe distribution event before the start of the new school year.
