EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Fort Bliss is kicking off a weeklong Independence Day celebration Saturday, June 27, with Pop Goes the Fort at Biggs Park, featuring live music, food and family-friendly activities starting at 4 p.m.

Entertainment planned for Pop Goes the Fort includes free live performances by the 1st Armored Division Band, El Paso hip hop artist Krystall Poppin, pop rock band Hot Chelle Rae and country music star Chris Young, who is set to headline event.

Fort Bliss MWR and Destination El Paso are teaming up for the celebration. Organizers say the goal of America 250 is not only to commemorate a historic milestone for the country, but also to bring the El Paso community together in a shared celebration of identity, heritage, and unity.

Attendees are allowed to bring canopies in a designated area, though space is limited, along with picnic baskets and coolers, blankets and lawn chairs. Alcohol, glass containers and pets are not allowed.

Children 12 and under must have a safety wristband to enter Biggs Park. Organizers say the wristbands are intended to help reunite children with parents if they become separated and will be available on the day of the event.

For visitors attending from out of town, organizers are encouraging families to get a Community Access Pass in advance, saying it is available to all families and can help avoid long lines on event day.

Fort Bliss’ Biggs Park is located at 11388 Sergeant Major Boulevard, and gates will be open beginning at 4 p.m.
