San Antonio will soon get used to seeing a new face on their TV screens — but that doesn’t mean this KENS 5 personality is new to the Alamo City.
KENS 5 digital executive producer David Lynch announced on Friday, June 26, that he’s moving into a new reporter role. In an Instagram post, he said he’s currently on air three days a week but will be full-time by the end of this summer.
“The last few months have given me a taste of life in front of the camera, but the most fulfilling part has been starting to dive deeper into local politics, and the decisions and people shaping San Antonio’s present and future. It’s been a thrill ride so far, one that’ll only continue picking up speed I’m sure,” he wrote on social media. “I’m reporting three days a week now and will approach full-time reporter status later this summer. Massively grateful for the vote of confidence from the KENS newsroom leadership, and even more grateful for how nearly eight years — and hundreds of bylines — on the digital team has equipped me to continue telling Alamo City stories for a new medium. Curtains up. The work begins.”
Lynch told MySA via direct message that he’s been a reporter for about three months now, “[dipping my toes] in to the new adjustments for reporting and meeting TV deadlines.” It started earlier this year when Lynch’s newsroom director approached him about reporting for TV on a local politics beat.
“I told him I was up for the challenge and excited about the chance to dig deeper into the [beat] given so much happening in the city right now and the transformation it’s undergoing, especially through Project Marvel planning. I had a taste of on-camera projects before this, but adapting to the daily coverage has been a welcome grind and education, not to mention giving me new appreciation for journalists who have worked for years and decades in that medium.”
He first came to the station in 2018 from Albuquerque, where he was also a digital producer. He said that makes San Antonio the city he’s lived in the longest, and being on the digital team at KENS “has given me so much appreciation and love for San Antonio,” though it also meant juggling tons of stories every day. The best part of the new gig has been focusing on individual stories, Lynch told MySA.
The University of New Mexico graduate has seen a few life changes in 2026, including popping the question to fellow KENS 5 reporter Alicia Neaves in January. Speaking to MySA at the time, she said, “I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful moment to celebrate our relationship.”
The pair met in 2021 after Neaves returned to the station, having left in 2017, just before Lynch began working there. Neaves said she felt torn between her feelings for Lynch and the prospect of dating a coworker, but their friendship blossomed, and they began dating in 2023 after “a couple years of chasing.” All in all, she said it’s been great to “have that resemblance of peace right there nearby” in a hectic industry.
Lynch told MySA, “Alicia has absolutely been a godsend. She’s a multi-award-winning journalist and SA native, so she’s absolutely been the best mentor as I learn the ins and outs of reporting for TV.”
“Asking her questions and seeking her guidance every day! The first time we both had live shots in the 10pm news a few weeks ago was a touching moment for the both of us,” he said. “Her love for San Antonio has motivated me in more ways than I think even I realize.”
