Oakberry Trails—a Ryko development in Waller—celebrated its grand opening Saturday with a family friendly event featuring food trucks, a petting zoo, a kids activity zone, outdoor games and live entertainment, according to a Facebook post from the development. The 262-acre project is slated to bring more than 900 homes to Waller County.
Approximately 76 homes in the community have sold and roughly 60 families have moved in, developers told the Houston Business Journal. The first phase of the development includes 317 lots, while construction on the second phase is already underway. Ryko Development did not immediately respond to Chron’s request for comment.
The community is designed to give residents “room to breathe and space to connect,” according to its website. Homes start at around $300,000 in what developers describe as an “outdoor-centric” development with a farmhouse-style community center, pool, lakes, greenspaces, trails and more.
The company broke ground on the development in 2024 after initially acquiring 215 acres for a planned 800-home community. The name, Oakberry Trails, pays tribute to the family that previously owned the ranch land, which features a former fishing pond and cattle watering hole.
Located off U.S. Highway 290 on Kickapoo Road, developers say the community offers convenient access to major employment and retail hubs. Oakberry Trails is about 40 miles northwest of Downtown Houston, 32 miles northwest of the Energy Corridor and roughly 10 miles from shopping and dining at Cypress Towne Center.
The grand opening comes as Waller County continues to experience rapid growth. Earlier this month, KHOU 11 reported the county ranked the second fastest-growing in the U.S., with its population increasing by 5.7 percent last year alone.
