The string of hot, dry days in North Texas continues Monday, with high temperatures nearing triple digits.
Daytime temperatures are expected to hit 99 degrees, with a heat index as high as 102, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office. Low temperatures are forecast to sit at 78 degrees.
Winds of 10 to 15 mph are forecast to persist throughout the day, with gusts of up to 30 mph.
The Dallas-Fort Worth region isn’t the only area feeling the heat. A strong heat wave is forecast to hit a large portion of the central and eastern United States this week, with temperatures rising just before America’s 250th anniversary.
Forecasters say several days of high temperatures will settle in across the lower Great Lakes, the mid-Atlantic and the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys, the Associated Press reported. Some areas may even reach record highs.
Temperatures will reach well into the 90s and low 100s, the weather service said, and high humidity will lead to heat indexes as high as 115 degrees.
During extreme temperatures, limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated and ensure access to air-conditioning and other cooling areas, the weather service said.
