A popular doughnut chain has lost two of its Houston-area locations. Voodoo Doughnut‘s has quietly closed its bakeries at 1214 Westheimer Rd. in Montrose and 1301 N. Fry Rd. in Katy.
A visit to both locations confirmed the storefronts are no longer open. The Montrose shop’s bright pink windows are now covered. At the Katy location, its drive-thru menu has since been wiped and marked with graffiti.
With the closures, the Portland-based brand is now down to only one location in the Houston area: the shop at 3715 Washington Ave., which was also its first location in the city.
When Chron called the Washington Avenue location, staff declined to comment or confirm the closures and referred questions to Voodoo Doughnut’s corporate office. The company has not yet responded to Chron’s request for comment.
Voodoo Doughnuts, which has multiple locations across the U.S., opened in Portland between two nightclubs in 2003. But Houston didn’t get a taste of its classic and creative, colorful doughnuts until 2020. One of its big hooks was that it was a late-night destination, only open during the dark and closed during the day. Things have changed since then, and the storefronts are all-day experiences. the Houston location is open Sunday-Thursday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday-Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Its Montrose and Katy closures aren’t the first time the brand has made a quiet exit. In 2024, Voodoo “flew under the radar and disappeared” from Cypress, with many learning about the closure only after photos of the store’s sign being removed were shared on social media, Chron previously reported.
