COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD), the City of Fountain, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office have issued fire restrictions for the city of Colorado Springs and the rest of the county due to increasingly dangerous fire conditions.
CSFD’s restrictions went into effect Monday at noon.
Sheriff and Fire Warden Joseph Roybal announced Stage I Fire Restrictions, effective Monday at 1 p.m., for all unincorporated areas of El Paso County.
Fire officials said the burn ban is being implemented due to increasingly dangerous fire conditions, including dry weather, a lack of significant moisture, forecasted high temperatures, and elevated wildfire risk with several wildfires burning across Colorado, placing increased demand on firefighting resources from CSFD.
CSFD officials provided the following activities that are prohibited during the burn ban:
Outdoor cooking fueled by wood, pellets or charcoalOutdoor fires in portable or fixed fireplaces fueled by wood, pellets or charcoalRecreational fires, including campfires not contained in a portable or fixed fireplaceOperating small internal combustion engines, such as chainsaws, without a properly installed and functioning spark arrestorOutdoor smoking in city parks or open spaces
Additional prohibited activities include:
Permits for bonfires and model rockets will not be issued while the burn ban is in effect.Outdoor hot work activities, including welding, brazing, blasting, and torching, will require a permit from the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
Firefighters continue to inform residents that fireworks are still illegal in Colorado Springs.
CSFD officials are urging all residents and visitors to exercise “extreme” caution.
