All lanes of a major highway in Central Texas have been closed due to a deadly crash that sent an 18-wheeler off an overpass. The Texas Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert on Monday, June 29 for southbound lanes on State Highway 130 at University Boulevard in Round Rock, north of Austin.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said at approximately 12:51 p.m., state troopers alongside other law enforcement agencies, responded to a two-vehicle deadly crash at the intersection of Chandler Road and State Highway 130 frontage road in Williamson County. Preliminary investigation indicates an Audi SUV attempted to turn left and struck a semi-truck with a trailer.

The semi-truck then left the overpass and landed onto the main lanes of southbound SH-130, according to DPS. The semi-truck driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the Audi SUV had the driver and two child passengers inside.

All three were transported to an area hospital to be evaluated for possible injuries. The southbound main lanes of SH-130 remain closed while troopers investigate the crash, and crews work to clear the scene. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and expect significant delays.

The Round Rock Police Department said it’s assisting the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety with a crash at SH 130 and University Boulevard involving an 18-wheeler that went over the side of the overpass. Round Rock Police reported the incident at 12:56 p.m. on Monday, but traffic at the site still appears to be backed up hours later.

Traffic tracking website, SigAlert, says TX-130-TOLL south between University Blvd./Exit 419 and US-79/Exit 423, is currently backed up to Patriot Way as of 3:34 p.m. Monday. SigAlert is reporting high congestion with stopped traffic and delays up to 30 minutes.

The site suggested drivers can use an alternate route on Highway 29 in Round Rock. RRPD said eastbound traffic is currently being diverted to southbound County Road 110.
