Dallas temperatures continue to inch towards triple digits, which have fluttered in and out of the forecast for much of June, and are now expected to arrive in time for the Fourth of July.
The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office is predicting Tuesday’s high to reach 97 degrees, with a low of 77.
The heat index, or “feels like” temperature, is forecast by the weather service to be 100.
Sunny skies and a 0% chance of precipitation are also expected by the weather service Tuesday, alongside light winds.
However, extreme heat isn’t the only potentially hazardous weather North Texans need to be aware of.
A Saharan dust plume is expected to impact the region this week. The dust is predicted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to worsen air quality and cloud skies with haze. The agency anticipates air quality to become unhealthy for sensitive groups and is encouraging children, older adults and those with health conditions such as asthma to monitor air quality alerts and limiting prolonged outdoor activity.
Temperatures will continue in the high 90s throughout the week, the weather service predicts, before potentially reaching 100 on Saturday, Independence Day, and Sunday. High heat index values are on track to cause the weather service to issue an extreme heat advisory this weekend.
