Although it’s a limited view, given the fact it’s a non-contact sport featuring only skill position players, it’s a way to see which teams may have the playmaking quality that shows up in big moments when the pads get put on.
Here are a few of the area players who stood out over the tournament weekend.
WR Braylen Dixon, Keller Central
Dixon was an expert at high pointing the ball on a lot of Central’s big plays, especially against Lake Travis in the semifinal where he had two key touchdowns.
TE Jaden Davis, Allen
The rising junior looked at every part of a top quarterback prospect in College Station. Zingelmann’s best passes throughout the tournament came on far passes to the left sideline. The only thing more impressive than Zingelmann at 7-on-7 is when the talented signal-caller is allowed to use his athleticism running. Teammate and Utah-pledge Jaden Bibbs also showed out particularly against DeSoto, when he could’ve had a game-sealing pick six.
DB Tierney Shaw, Mansfield Timberview
Timberview’s rising junior made plays in the event including a pick six against Beaumont United in a key win that clinched the team a spot in the winner’s bracket. He also had an interception against Dripping Springs.
QB Lane Vargas, Colleyville Heritage
People got a big sneak peek at the new signal caller for Colleyville Heritage as Vargas played with patience and accuracy. He helped guide Heritage go 2-1 and make the winner’s bracket.
WR Kason Brown, Arlington
The younger brother of former Arlington Colt Jahari Rogers is making a name for himself. He’s already receiver over 20 offers and picked up one from SMU following a standout weekend at 7-on-7 in which he flashed secure hands and physicality.
