Harris County sees record-breaking voter turnout for odd-year election

  • November 5, 2025

HOUSTON – The Harris County Clerk’s Office announced that voters have broken the record for the highest voter turnout the county has seen on an odd-year Election Day.

During the two-week early voting period, the clerk’s office counted more than 212,000 ballots cast. As of Election Day, 211,670 additional ballots had been cast, bringing the total to more than 423,600 ballots.

Officials said this marks the highest turnout for an odd-year election in the last 25 years. The previous record was set in 2015, when the clerk’s office counted 421,460 total votes between early voting and Election Day.

Approximately 600 voting locations were open across Harris County. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

Once ballots are cast, they are transported to the Harris County Elections Headquarters warehouse in north Houston. Officials said the total number of ballots is expected to increase once all polls officially close.
