The body of a man who has been missing since Saturday when he jumped into Benbrook Lake to help a child was recovered Monday morning, according to a statement from the Texas Parks & Wildlife department.
His body was found by Texas Game Wardens from Tarrant County with assistance from the Fort Worth Fire Department and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Benbrook Lake is located about 17 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
Crews, including underwater search and recovery teams, searched the lake for about eight hours Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. When the search renewed Monday morning, they found the man, the statement said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the man’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the statement said. “Out of respect for their wishes, we will not be releasing any identifying information.”
Officials responded to the lake about 1 p.m. Saturday for a possible water fatality where witnesses told officials that two men had jumped from a boat to assist a child in the water.
One went under water and did not resurface, the statement said.
According to a statement from Texas Parks & Wildlife, the man’s death was one of many water-related incidents Texas Game Wardens responded to across the state Saturday.
The teen, who hasn’t been publicly identified, called out for help before disappearing beneath the water, police said.
