A second suspect has been arrested after two former high school athletes were killed in an East Texas Whataburger parking lot Saturday. 

Marshall Police Communications received a 9-1-1 call around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, reporting a shooting at the Whataburger on Victory Drive in Marshall, Texas. Officers found four victims with gunshot wounds. Brothers James Morrow, 20, and Jassiah Hill, 18, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to KLTV. 

Jamarrio Dominique Epps, 21, was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting and charged with murder. Davion McDale Brown, 19, was previously arrested and charged with capital murder of multiple persons. Both are held at Harrison County Jail. 

Morrow and Hill were recent high school graduates who played football. Hill played football for Longview High School and had received a scholarship to play at William Penn University in Iowa.

“Jassiah was loved by many in our school community, and his loss is deeply felt by classmates, teammates, coaches, teachers and staff who had the privilege of knowing him,” Longview ISD officials wrote on Facebook. “During moments like this, words are never enough. We are holding Jassiah’s family, his friends, his teammates, and all who are hurting close in our hearts and prayers.”

Morrow, who played high school football in Carthage, had recently transferred from Navarro College to Trinity Valley Community College.

While at Carthage High School, Morrow played defensive tackle, earning multiple All-District and All-State honors. The Carthage Bulldogs were 2022 and 2024 4A Division II State Champions while Morrow was on the team.

“The James Morrow we’ll remember isn’t defined by tackles or trophies. He’ll be remembered for the laugh you could hear from across the room, the smile that came so easily, the jokes with his teammates, and the personality that made James unmistakably him,” Carthage High School’s athletic department wrote on Facebook. “He had a way of making the locker room a little louder, the bus rides a little more memorable, and the people around him smile a little more often.”

The brothers were reportedly at a relative’s birthday party before stopping at Whataburger. 

“Those were some outstanding kids,” their father, James Morrow Sr., told KLTV. “Not perfect, but they were damn good kids.”
