LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — Federal agents arrested a Mexican migrant in Las Cruces who they believe was planning to smuggle 35 migrants from El Paso to other cities across the country.
Information on the case is limited, but the Homeland Security Investigations office in El Paso took to social media Tuesday to announce the arrest of Luis Carlos Aguirre, accusing him of conspiring to transport or harbor dozens of migrants, adding that Aguirre is from Mexico and in the country illegally.

KFOX14/CBS4 reached out to federal authorities to learn more about the case.
A spokesperson with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement replied, revealing that the case involved the smuggling of 35 migrants, that Aguirre is a co-conspirator and that the investigation began in “early 2026.”
According to ICE, the case remains under investigation.
