CLOVIS, New Mexico (KVII) — A Clovis man is accused of making Facebook posts threatening a gay pride event in Lubbock.
Michael Kenneth Thompson is charged in federal court with interstate threatening communications.
According to the criminal complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, the FBI National Threat Operations Center received an anonymous tip on Saturday that Thompson had commented several times on a Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Facebook post about a pride event.
The complaint says Thompson’s comments included: “soooooo whatcha saying is it’s Hunting Season” and “nothing that a little target practice can’t fix.”
The FBI said the same Facebook profile also replied to another user, “I don’t need help just more ammo!”
FBI agents coordinated with Clovis police to contact Thompson and assess the threat.
According to the complaint, Thompson admitted posting the comments, and said he was “stupid for it” and he deleted them.
When Thompson was arrested Sunday at his home in Clovis, he told agents he was “just running his mouth” and had no intention of shooting anyone, according to the complaint.
