EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Parks and Recreation crews have been busy removing a large tree at Eastwood Park (Album Park) that was destroyed in a recent storm.
The tree has been estimated to be 100 years old by many in the community.

A storm on June 18 damaged the tree and left it split in three pieces. The damaged tree was left in a small pond of residual stormwater.
According to a social media post by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, crews secured the area and kept the park clean throughout the removal process.
“The tree will continue giving back to the community,” the post said.
Its green leaves are being delivered to the El Paso Zoo to feed animals, like giraffes, zebras, rhinos, pronghorn, kudu and horses.
The branches and logs will be repurposed and used for larger animals to explore and play around. These include the big cats, like the lions, tigers, jaguars and mountain lines.
“Thank you for your patience as we work to keep our parks safe, clean, and sustainable for everyone to enjoy,” the El Paso Parks and Recreation Department said.
