Rangers shortstop Corey Seager was supposed to bat third today. Cameron Cauley curiously came to the plate in his place in a pinch-hit situation/late lineup change.

Seager was taken off the 7-day concussion IL on June 25, so when he was subbed out with no explanation, there was concern that he was dealing with residual effects. That’s not the case, thankfully, as Seager is instead dealing with a back injury.

Seager is batting .182 with a .667 OPS this season as he struggles through injuries. It’s uncharacteristic for the two-time World Series MVP, who was batting .278 with a .872 OPS across four seasons with the Rangers coming into this year. With Texas sitting at 43-42, only a half game ahead of the Mariners for the top spot in the AL West, any absence is a concern for the Rangers.
