ABILENE, Texas (KWTX) – A Texas mother used the Safe Haven Baby Box at the Abilene Fire Department’s Station 7 to safely surrender a baby.
The fire station, located at 431 N. Pioneer Drive, was utilized the morning of July 1.
According to the department, crews responded to the box alarm notification, removed the baby, and performed a preliminary health assessment.
The infant was then transported by ambulance to a hospital for further evaluation.
Fire officials remind the public that the Safe Haven Baby Box at Station 7 is intended to provide a designated location for the safe and anonymous surrender of newborn infant.
There are currently 21 safe haven baby boxes throughout Texas. Three babies have been safely surrendered in Texas, according to online reports.
