The Central Library will host a handmade glass coaster workshop from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday in the FabLab.

Students will have the opportunity to make their own glass coasters and will be guided through the methods of cutting glass, the tools used to cut glass and how to follow a premade glass design.

“The way that the workshop is structured is we usually go through a roughly 30-minute workshop presentation because I like to have an educational aspect to it,’’ FabLab maintenance technician Perla Vargas said.

Students will be given 5-by-5 inches worth of glass and will get to choose two colors to make their coaster, as well as pick their own design.

“Our main goal of the space is for them to have access to a lot of this knowledge, tools and equipment that they wouldn’t typically have,’’ Vargas said.

Admission is $10, and spots are limited. Students can find the sign-up form on the library website.
