TYLER, Texas (KETK)— Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced Tuesday nearly 73,000 Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) are set to receive initial funding July 1.

“As we launch the nation’s largest year-one school choice program, our office is committed to helping families find the education that best fits their child while delivering a first-class experience and protecting taxpayer dollars,” Hancock said.

Texas Comptroller says on July 1, homeschool and eligible nonpublic students will receive their full $2,000 award, and private school students will receive the first 25% of their total award. The first installment will be followed by another 25% on October 1 and the final 50% on February 1 2027.

Homeschool and private school families who opted into the program by the deadline and have confirmed enrollment will receive funding first. Families who are awarded funding before June 22 have until July 15 to select a school participating in the program, if they have not done so already.

As well as distributing funds, the TEFA marketplace will open to families on July 1 to purchase approved products and services from schools, service providers and vendors. Examples of eligible products include: textbooks, technology products and assistive products for students with disabilities.

Waitlisted families awarded in the future will have four weeks from the date they receive their awards to complete their confirmations. Families who complete their confirmations will continue to be funded periodically in batches before the school year begins in August.
