North Texans are losing a longtime Dallas-Fort Worth TV meteorologist as he heads into retirement following more than a decade at the station.
On Friday, June 26, CBS News Texas said goodbye to senior meteorologist Jeff Ray, who had been with the station since December 2010. In a Facebook post, the station wrote, “After 16 years with CBS News Texas, we’re wishing meteorologist Jeff Ray a very happy retirement.”
“Jeff has spent his career helping North Texans through Texas’ unpredictable weather. His love for this community, his leadership in the newsroom and, of course, his love for plants have made him such a special part of our team,” the post reads. “Around the newsroom, Jeff has also brought so much laughter, joy and unforgettable stories to the people lucky enough to work alongside him. Thank you, Jeff, for the forecasts, the guidance and the memories you’ve shared with us over the years. We’ll miss you, but we’re so excited for this next chapter!”
The Lubbock-born, Tennessee-raised meteorologist’s broadcast career spans four decades. He earned a degree in communications from the University of Texas at Austin, a bachelor’s in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State, and a master’s in science education from the University of Missouri.
In the station’s farewell video, many of Ray’s current and former colleagues showed up to wish him well, including meteorologist Brittany Rainey, who left CBS News Texas for Nashville last year, St. Louis meteorologist Anne Elise Parks, CBS Texas stormchaser Jason McLaughlin, who also came to the station in 2010, stormchaser Mike Prendergast, former meteorologist Jeff Jamison and others. It included clips from broadcasts, school visits, Rangers games and more, and McLaughlin said Ray has “been the backbone of the weather team here at KTVT.”
