Texas baseball lost a player to the transfer portal and added a few coaches to the clubhouse this week.
The most recent roster departure is first baseman Ashton Larson. Larson spent the previous season as a member of the 2025 College World Series champion LSU team before coming to UT. In his sole Longhorns season, he hit .258, one home run and recorded 16 RBIs.
After six months as a hitting instructor for the Cincinnati Reds’ minor league team, Caleb Longley returns to the Forty Acres to work with Texas as an assistant coach, focusing on hitters and team defense. As a recruiting coordinator and assistant at Texas A&M for the 2025 season, Longley helped shape the country’s fourth-best recruiting class.
Longley, 31, worked at Texas from 2022-24 under former coach David Pierce. He was in charge of hitting and pitching development before being promoted to hitting coach in 2023. In 2024 the Tennessee native was named the program’s recruiting coordinator.
Also joining Longley on staff is Jake Marder. The 36-year-old California native will assist with hitters and catchers and serve as the team’s recruiting coordinator.
Oregon established 19 single-season school records with Marder as an assistant coach, highlighted by 115 home runs and 438 RBI during the 2025 season. The Ducks made it to the postseason six times during Marder’s time and advance to the super regionals in 2023, 2024 and 2026.
