Clovis, N.M. (KFDA) – A Clovis man is facing federal charges after police say he made threatening comments about the Lubbock Pride Fest.
The New Mexico U.S. District Attorney’s Office says on June 27, 44-year-old Michael Kenneth Thompson is accused of posting threatening comments on Facebook about the Lubbock Pride Fest 2026.
This was in response to a post made by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Facebook page about the event.
Officials say the statements reference the event as ‘hunting season and ‘target practice.
Thompson also commented that he did not need help ‘just more ammo.’
Officials say they received an anonymous tip where the FBI National Threat Operations Center identified the Facebook account and traced it back to Thompson in Clovis.
Local law enforcement contacted Thompson, who police say admitted to making the comments and later deleting them.
He was arrested by the FBI on June 28 at his home in Clovis.
Thompson is charged with interstate threatening communications and was held in custody until his detention hearing on July 1.
If convicted, Thompson faces up to five years in prison.
The Roswell Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office is investigating this case with assistance from the Clovis Police Department.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico is prosecuting the case.
